Re: Horseshoe Theory

I always thought this one-dimensional left-right dichotomy is pretty arbitrary. If I'm informed correctly, it first came up in the British parliament where the "nobles" sat on the right and the "commoners" on the left, or something like that. But societies, especially nowadays, are much more diverse...

good enough

I don't understand how this works (nor its exact connection to Dharma). But it sounds good enough.

I thought about putting this in the Jokes thread but decided it belonged here ... ymmv.

So, does AOC run for POTUS 2020, or does Tomi Lahren, or Tony Posnanski? Or why would it belong to this thread, rather than the joke thrad?

https://twitter.com/Natalia01Mateo/status/1179442677210894336 This is actually great research job Not sure about that. It seems to prove at first glance that there is clear exaggeration in the media Indeed. It does look like that, at first glance. Hence, I don't understand this response: :twothumbs...

Re: Drugs are bad, mkay?

Thanks for your input. So, I've come down from the "rush" already, have slept even a bit. There is just some residual "afterglow" still now. And I have, again, accomplished nothing useful, in terms of work, with the "help" of the drug, which would have been my intended purpose for using it. I should...

Drugs are bad, mkay?

So, I just learnt that speed/amphetamine/pep/whatever you call it is total crap. (In fact I have learnt that several times by now. Had to try it once more to let it really sink in, maybe.) Just fucks my mind, makes me unable to think clearly and get anything useful done. Just thought I'd share this ...

Re: Climate change - politics and activism

Franzen is surprisingly good on accepting the grim reality: All-out war on climate change made sense only as long as it was winnable. Once you accept that we’ve lost it, other kinds of action take on greater meaning. Preparing for fires and floods and refugees is a directly pertinent example. But t...

Re: Parental Abuse

Is this true that parents have the right to kill or hurt their child while they have to endure it till death cause they are his/her parents and any act to escape or obtain freedom of the abuse is a sin according to buddhism? (ananthariya akusala) Killing your parents would be an anantarika-kamma . ...

hello

Hi, Perkele, Welcome to DWE. :hello: Why not hop over to the Introductions thread and tell us about yourself? I know you've been a member on DWT or DWM for quite a while, but I can't even remember which one  and some of our members won't know you at all. Okay then, and thanks for the welcome!...

Re: The Depravity of Climate-Change Denial

I think I may have gone off on an irrelevant tangent with my rambling post. But I think one of the biggest problems is that it has become so much "ideologized", and it's difficult to bring much of what's being discussed in the political sphere down to a neutral informative down-to-earth level that c...

Re: The Depravity of Climate-Change Denial

I believe Cakkhavati Donnie the Great is only trolling and should not be taken cereal. I have no idea what actual consequences the US president's denial of reality has in this particular case. I certainly find it disturbing and largely agree with the writer of that article in the OP. But I don't kno...
