Re: Black Lives Matter

In addition to my reading "What We Believe" at the BLM site, there is the linked analysis below. Yes, I stipulate it is hostile (as am I) to varied Leftist projects, plans & groups, like BLM. Yet there are plenty of embedded links to the sources about BLM: https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/16181/bl...

Blackout Day

But why confine this to one day a year, just boycott all non-black owned businesses always?

Sure to produce more harmony and brotherhood in USA. :(

Re: Ecomodernism

How it begins: To say that the Earth is a human planet becomes truer every day. Humans are made from the Earth, and the Earth is remade by human hands. Many earth scientists express this by stating that the Earth has entered a new geological epoch: the Anthropocene, the Age of Humans. As scholars, s...

[....] Though I don't believe that Republicans are always right and Democrats are always wrong, I have discovered that Republicans are more often than not the lesser of two evils in matters of actual policy. Nonviolence is a central concept of India's great religions, and as a student of Indian rel...

Re: Cities are Dying

Greetings, We should ask who created these criminals. Their parents. But more specifically, since Wrong View leads to Wrong Intention to Wrong Speech, Wrong Action etc... What is the Wrong View they hold and, to swing back to your question, Who is responsible for indoctrinating them in these Wrong ...

Cities are Dying

This is just one USA city, similar conditions are found in many more, mainly those run by Democrat politicians. Have their voters had enough yet? Will they replace their leaders with Republicans in November?

Ecomodernism

A few years ago a group of Earth & Humanity lovers put forth a Manifesto of seven themes. This approach seems feasible & thus helpful to both human nature and non-human nature on this planet.

Re: Roots of Good & Evil

After the roots are cultivated, sprouts arise: Only once in all his works did Marx ever write about torture. During his own lifetime, many of his followers were tortured by Russian Czarist authorities. Since Marx is usually described as a humanist, one would expect him to write with horror about suc...

Re: The GOP

If humankind is burdened by the weight of negative karma, then leftist utopianism just can't work in the real world. This shouldn't be too hard to understand. True - but one kind of bad vipaka, exemplified by the cancel culture, is an inability to think or ponder or analyze. Instead the habit is fo...

Re: The GOP

Leftist utopianism is against the Judeo-Christian doctrine of original sin, because it insists upon the predictability of mankind and human society. It's also against the Buddhist doctrine of past karma, which prevents human society from collectively being able to perfect itself. Citation? What kin...

Re: Russell Kirk (d. 1994)

One thing I like about Russell Kirk is that he presented conservatism as an inclination rather than an ideology. Conservatism is the impulse to preserve the founding principles that made our country great, and to make America more in line with those founding principles through gradual rather than r...

Yet the Jains have some equanimity. Notice the nose is not covered. The inner breath needs to be free to maintain best human health, only the outgoing breath is blocked because of danger to other creatures. Halitosis is just a small sign of our polluting out-breath.

Re: Russell Kirk (d. 1994)

Kirk names some seven characteristics of radical ideology: (1) a belief in the unlimited malleability, or perfectibility, of human nature, (2) a belief in an “illimitable progress of society” which will rid the world of the human “proclivity” for conflict and violence, (3) a “[c]ontempt for traditi...

Another reminder of this wise & noble mind: In the essay “Why Edmund Burke Is Studied,” which serves as the Epilogue to his eminently readable book Edmund Burke: A Genius Reconsidered , Kirk states the following Burke, with his prophetic gifts, perceived the shape of things to come in this bent worl...

Re: Abortion & Ahimsa

Do not know if the traditional view as expressed by a bodhisattva matters much. Yet here is Je Tsongkhapa from his Lamrim Chenmo on the heavier weight of karma-vipaka depending on the kind of being killed: Killing that is weighty due to its basis is taking the life of a large animal, a human, a fetu...
