Re: Nuclear Energy

Do you think Nuclear power is an aid in halting global warming? Should it be used and expanded or not, and why? Climate scientists who have offered a opinion on the question generally say definitely yes. They are joined by a growing number of environmentalists and what seems like the majority of pe...

DNS could, and I hope does, pull the plug on DWE. Why? No one is forced to log in or post, but if anyone wants to, this site i...

Re: This forum is stagnant...

Admin at DWT sometimes refers people here in topics that would be more suited here. Also, DWM still has a politics/lounge/engaged Buddhism section so they might be less inclined to come here. I think it will just take time. DS Been nearly a year, so enough time has passed for this site to perk up -...

Re: Altruism

Fundamentally, to the extent that altruism permeates our minds, it is expressed instantaneously when we are confronted with the needs of the other. As the Canadian philosopher Charles Taylor wrote: “Much modern moral philosophy has focused on what it is right to do rather than the nature of the goo...

Re: Altruism

An excerpt from page 22. It seems legitimate, then, to speak also of altruistic or selfish dispositions according to the mental states that usually predominate in a person—all the stages between unconditional altruism and narrowminded selfishness are conceivable. The Scottish philosopher Francis Hut...

Re: Western Buddhists caught again in a web of lies

Dear forum Its interesting how the Buddha so highly emphasised truthfulness; thus doing one's best to be honest, even when not fully informed, to get as informed as possible; or otherwise keep silent.
