Re: "Russiagate": reality and hysteria

if you think that about the Mueller report you really are buying into the Trump brand cool aid!!! I'm saying nothing will happen; there won't be any impeachment, no resignation. Trump will leave office one day, but it won't be by impeachment, it will be by losing in 2020 or by finishing a second te...

Re: "Russiagate": reality and hysteria

The Mueller report is out and it is all over the news in the U.S. It provides some vague references to possible collusion, but no smoking-gun, no big revelations. As I thought, what will come of all this:

Re: POTUS 2020, part 1

Former Governor Bill Weld announces he'll challenge Trump for the Republican nomination for POTUS. https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/15/politics/bill-weld-2020-trump/index.html It's very rare that someone challenges an incumbent president for the nomination, from the same party. However, Bill Weld is more...

Re: Celebrities and the wealthy buying college admission

This is a common problem of Sri Lanka too. It is important that we need a lot of money to run a university. The answer to this is to have more universities and scholarship for the poor. Without the brilliant students, the universities do not survive even if they have a lot of money. Yes and the wor...

Re: Speaking Out - Engaged Speech

My position is that speaking or not-speaking both have karmic effect, and sometimes remaining silent is itself an expression of complicity with very harmful speech. Now tell me all the reasons why this is not Dharma/Dhamma. I mostly agree with this. If something bad is happening and you can help or...

Re: Western Buddhists caught again in a web of lies

Are you generalizing all Western Buddhists to holding one particular view on this? Why would you do that? Buddhists have various political views, including on this issue. I was skeptical myself and knew that even if there were something, nothing would come of it. Just like the Ken Starr investigatio...

Re: Ranking the potus 2020 Dem. candidates

:thumb: Sanders and Gabbard are consistently anti-war and maybe a few other Dems. It's getting harder to find anti-war Dems lately. Since Trump came out for withdrawing troops from Syria, all of a sudden some Dems became pro-war. Politics is crazy sometimes. It's like some Dems want to oppose Trump ...

Oldest?
Bernie Sanders, currently 77, would be 79, oldest ever elected, if elected.
Youngest?
Pete Buttigieg, 37 (born 1982)
close 2nd place: Tulsi Gabbard, 37 (born 1981)
Biggest stake in the future (kids/grandkids under voting age)?
Tulsi Gabbard

Ranking the potus 2020 Dem. candidates

Just for fun . . . (not to be taken too seriously and my opinions may change) Most Dharmic candidate: Tulsi Gabbard (she's a Hindu) Most athletic candidate: Tulsi Gabbard (surfer, martial artist, martial arts instructor) Most military experience: Tulsi Gabbard (Major, US Army National Guard) close 2...

Re: Horrors in NZ and taking responsibility for hurtful speech

And this has what to do with spreading Dhamma? You are curating a Dhamma/Dharma discussion. I don't know why you feel it is appropriate in such a forum to give voice to a Holocaust denier. This is how you create a false equivalence and give legitimacy to hate speech that should find no home on a Dh...

Re: Horrors in NZ and taking responsibility for hurtful speech

You are not a moderator over at DWT so you don't see all the goings on over there, especially behind the scenes. Offensive posts get reported, they get discussed and the Moderating team makes a decision. Only a few decisions are unanimous. Sometimes there are disagreements, even among mods and a dec...

Re: Horrors in NZ and taking responsibility for hurtful speech

The platform is comprised entirely of speech. It should be appropriate to raise the issue of Right Speech. In a community of Buddhists, we can be supporting one another to develop all of the factors of the Path. When hurtful speech in manifest in our Buddhist community, it is appropriate to call it...

Re: Horrors in NZ and taking responsibility for hurtful speech

Calling something as "dhammawheel.com attacks . . ." is wrong speech. You are generalizing once again to an entire forum of participants who don't all share the views of one or two or three members, or whoever it is who is writing the post you disagree with. Writing such speech like that is divisive...

Re: Horrors in NZ and taking responsibility for hurtful speech

As far as I know the three forums owned by David Snyder - DW-Theravada, DW-Mahayana and this one, are run separately. Is your complaint about this forum or DW-Theravada? Don't forget Dharma Paths! https://dharmapaths.com/ Although, I should admit, it's very inactive, it's easy to forget that one. :D

Re: Horrors in NZ and taking responsibility for hurtful speech

Is the OP about the horrors in NZ or just a complaint about DWT? It appears to be solely about DWT and how there are supposedly so many Trump supporters over there. As has been noted, politics is not discussed there any more. So what's the problem? It appears to be the OP can't complain any more at ...

Town Halls on CNN today with Gabbard, Delaney, and Pete Buttigieg. They all did pretty good, in my opinion. Who came out the winner, if any? DS It's hard to say, they all did good. I didn't see any answer where there was any 'gotcha' type moment where the moderators try to catch them contradicting ...
