Re: Another war in the Middle East?

DNS, not sure what you mean about the "21 Trillion dollars in debt". Actually, it's 22 trillion now. https://www.usdebtclock.org/ The 22 trillion no longer looks a huge amount of money when one knows that the cost of the drone shot down by Iran is 176m USD https://time.com/5611222/rq-4-global-hawk-...

Re: Another war in the Middle East?

There is airspace, of course. If the drone was not over Iran, it was within the rules. And the only reason to violate the rules would be to provoke a war--which, even by the mindless standards of Trump, would be foolish. It's the fringe elements of Iran testing the limits of what they can do, and s...

US confirms Iranian missile has shot down drone A US military drone has been shot down by an Iranian surface-to-air missile while in international airspace over the Strait of Hormuz, US officials say. Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said it shot down the drone over Iranian airspace, ne...

Pompeo again blames Iran for tanker attacks but insists 'we don't want war' https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/jun/16/mike-pompeo-iran-tanker-attacks-we-dont-want-war While it is uncertain whether it is a false flag or not, the US is making sure to emphasize that it does not want war with Ira...

Another war in the Middle East?

Earlier today, two oil tankers have been attacked in the gulf of Oman. This is followed by an attack on 4 oil tankers in UAE few weeks ago. By the time of this post, Mike Pompeo blamed Iran for a "blatant assault". This is followed by intensifying Houthies (An Iranian proxy in Yemen) attacks on Saud...

Re: POTUS 2020, part 1

I heard from some pundits on the news that the Republicans are secretly worried about Biden in the race. They feel they have a good chance of beating any of the other Dem contenders by painting them as socialists, but with the centrist Biden, they will likely lose. It is very likely that this is wh...

Re: Over 200 dead in Sri Lanka terrorist attack

What is the solution for this Christian, Muslims, Jewes and Buddhist fundamentalism? Don't forget those (such as the perpetrator of the terror attack in my country) who are not particularly religious, but nationalistic/reactionary/racist/etc... Religion is not a necessary condition for terrorism......

Re: NZ prime minister expresses solidarity with Muslims

I visited the northern part of NZ once and i met many kiwis when i lived in Australia. I think the kindness and goodness of the people of NZ will help heal the wounds caused by this brutal attack.

Re: Horrors in NZ and taking responsibility for hurtful speech

It might seem that way to you. Please see the post above and give it more thought, if you wish. With all due respect, i still do not see the link. If your mind associated the incident in NZ with old posts in DW, that does not make the link necessary. I admit though that hate speech can affect peopl...

Not really. The attack in NZ and right speech are two important topics, each worthy of discussing. Linking them, however, seems to be :redherring: and :stir:

Re: Toxic Masculinity? Or how to be a real man but not an ***hole (or at least try)

Has anyone here heard the term "Muscular Buddhism" before? Do others here find these posts exemplary of toxic masculinity? Why, or why not? I think it depends on the intention. It can be toxic, or it can be an attempt to counter what is perceived as unbalanced/biased system especially from western ...

Re: Toxic Masculinity? Or how to be a real man but not an ***hole (or at least try)

There are several threads on DWT recently that caught my attention. I'm wondering what others here think of them, particularly the posts about Muscular Buddhism and Muscular Christianity. https://dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=33699 https://dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=33701 The first...

Re: What is an SJW?

I don't think it's lost on anyone that posting memes on social media to people who agree with one's politics is no form of activism. Nor is demonizing people with alternative political and social views. I think this is the crux of the matter. Unfortunately, many people seem to have reduced activism...

Re: What is an SJW?

Personally I think it is perverse to know that a person in my circle or community is being abused and to respond in the spirit of: OK. I'll cultivate myself. And my qualities transform my family, community, the world. Do not you think that we are a bit drifting away from the context of this thread?...

Re: What is an SJW?

My fundamental question is whether all good is achievable simply through personal action. I think "good" begins with personal action. I find Confucian proper order to be wise: The illustrious ancients, when they wished to make clear and to propagate the highest virtues in the world, put their state...
