Re: Trump "Just not worth it"

There are still investigations going on by the U.S. House and the New York Southern District U.S. district attorney.

If something criminal comes up, then maybe some Republicans would be inclined to have an impeachment and trial; otherwise, no.

Re: Speaking Out - Engaged Speech

An involved discussion of right-speech from a Buddhist perspective necessitates discussion of doctrine and scriptures, which is more appropriate at DWT or DWM. Theravada and Mahayana views probably differ as to whether or not remaining silent consists of wrong-speech and whether in-action can bear ...

Re: Speaking Out - Engaged Speech

Particularly from an "engaged Buddhist" perspective, as appropriate here, Right Speech means speaking the truth. Doing so has its own karma/kamma, and not always beneficial. But remaining silent also has its karmic results. There is much more to right speech than not lying, according to Buddha Gaut...

DWT threads are best discussed on DWT, which covers broader areas of doctrine and teachings that are not within the intended scope of DWE.

Re: Climate science and statistics - omnibus thread

Food prices in US are rising and with the floods, will likely rise much more. I eat a lot of cabbage and the price per pound has jumped at least 30 cents. Meat prices have jumped too. Its almost cheaper to eat unhealthy fast food than to cook healthy. This really hits the poor. If we have a drought ...

Re: Western Buddhists caught again in a web of lies

The attorney general's report said that Trump was not found to have conspired with Russia, but regarding impeding the investigation, the AG said that Trump was not charged, but neither was he exonerated. Remember too, that although the Mueller investigation is over, the U.S. Congress is still invest...

Re: Romanian "PC" party asks for 3 to 10 years inprisonment for promotion of communist symbols or ideas

"PC" = the attitude of censorship, no matter towards who it is directed. You want to censor communism and nazism? Sorry, you are PC. You're exactly the kind of person who would rationalize voting for Hitler or Stalin. I would love to see Russia Today censored and banned in all western countries, sa...

Re: What are the limitations to speech on this forum (beyond ToS)?

DWE was never intended to function as an alternative news site - as DS said, "There are tons of online forums to discuss politics and every other imaginable topic, but this forum has a Buddhist focus." On the other hand, we're not generally going to object to news, current affairs, politics, jokes,...

Re: NZ prime minister expresses solidarity with Muslims

Cinnabar may be referring to the tenth tantric root downfall, "Maintain ties to beings with cruel intentions towards Buddha and his teachings." In my opinion, such determination needs to be based on an individual basis rather than group, with the possible exception of ISIS. It is very Buddhist to op...

Re: What are the limitations to speech on this forum (beyond ToS)?

Dharma Wheel (Engaged Buddhism) is a combined Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana Buddhist forum focused primarily on bringing together a community of people who are interested in the application of the Dhamma/Dharma to social, and environmental concerns. There are tons of online forums to discuss p...

Re: Ranking the potus 2020 Dem. candidates

I think Sen. Bernie Sanders is both the strongest anti-war and most progressive candidate. He was a conscientious objector during the Vietnam war. He opposed the 1983 US war against Nicaragua. He was against US military force to get Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait. He was against the Iraq war and predi...

Needs to stop solidarity with the 'Empire'; which caused this. Al Qaeda has been working for the Empire since before & after 9/11. People hate Islam, even though Al Qaeda is a covert operation of the Empire.
Are you referring to the USA as the Empire?

Town Halls on CNN today with Gabbard, Delaney, and Pete Buttigieg. They all did pretty good, in my opinion.
Who came out the winner, if any?

Re: POTUS 2020, part 1

Bernie Sanders has entered the POTUS race and raised $6 million in 24 hours, a record. Now the Dems have a tough choice; do they go with a far-left guy like Bernie or do they play it safe and choose a more moderate - centrist like Biden? He would likely have become president had the DNC not cheated...

Pete Buttigieg (pronounced roughly, "buddha-judge", it's a Maltese name), 37yo, is an up and coming on strong Democrat currently serving as the mayor of Indianapolis, IN.
small correction: he is mayor of South Bend, a big city closer to Chicago.
