We're supposed to re-use them. That's the reason.

Re: Saturday Protest Against the Imprisonment of Children.

All went well, and it seemed to be an enormous crowd.

Hopefully there will be meaningful action afterward.

Saturday Protest Against the Imprisonment of Children.

I'm heading out to protest this Saturday to protest the internment camps of the kids kidnapped from their parents. I'm not close enough to the camps to do anything else meaningfully to help, but I encourage people to participate if they can. The executive order that Donald Trump signed is not a solu...

Re: Work in Progress

I imagine that I'm the person here who has the least knowledge of Buddhism, since I've only been practicing for around 3 months- Welcome and feel free to ask any of us if you need guidance and help. I'm sure everyone's really eager to help anyone approach the Dharma in a good and healthy way. I'm f...

Re: Buddhist statement on the separation of children from their parents

Actually Chownah is correct here. I looked it up and it said that Obama did in fact lock up the children in detention camps... With their family. They never took the kids and put them in camps separate from their family as a deterrent as claimed by Sessions himself.

Re: Buddhist statement on the separation of children from their parents

I do not remember declaring Obama better for also practicing an abhorrent method of familial separation, nor has anyone else. I think we should reflect on the life of one of the great immigrants and refugees, the disciple Queen Samavati, and remember how she came to be one of the most proficient in ...

Re: Buddhist statement on the separation of children from their parents

This heartens me that so many Venerable people have agreed on something that should never happen. It was through bitter tears that I heard those children and since I understand the language and my profession is to do daycare, I was physically pained by the video of the children.

Re: Age Discrimination in Employment

I am self employed. It creates less problems for those who would discriminate against me for my age. I recommend that for anyone. Start your own business and don't work for anyone who would discriminate against you for age related issues. But it helps to remember that age based discrimination is ill...

Re: Is the MAGA Movement Based on Racism?

Yeah that's what they said about Nazis too. No. That is not what they said about the Nazis. No one in Germany at the time acknowledged what was happening, and it is folly to make a comparison that completely villainizes a group of people suffering who make poor life choices. On one hand I know what...

Re: The pros & cons of the "Cultural Appropriation" lens

Again we don't need permission to practice, but if we claim something that is not ours we are stealing. If we claim to be doing something we aren't doing it is fraudulent. That is what cultural appropriation is. If we aren't stealing or being fraudulent, we aren't doing cultural appropriation.

No. I mention it is due to angst over their inability to find work. The scapegoating is a side effect.

Also, how are these "elderly folk" supposed to afford retraining? By voting for someone who gives them access to free trade school, but that is not what they did. Have you looked at the cost of grad certification programs or grad programs ... for which financial aid is restricted to young students?...

Re: Is the MAGA Movement Based on Racism?

Some of it is, most of it isn't. Anecdotally I find it typically is white men who can't find gainful employment and want someone to blame. They then look at minorities who don't have the, "ancestry hangup"(I must take up the mantle of my grandpa and my father and do x menial job and not seek somethi...

Recipes aren't public domain, it's why this is an issue at all. Taking another's recipes and not crediting them is stealing.

That's not what the article says, that is your personal take from it. The article is very clear about what went wrong and why it is wrong. What they did that was inappropriate was watch people without their permission, stole their recipes, and then passed it off as their own. That's what is being ca...

I look forward to hearing what situations have caused you to feel this way, Seth Rich and whose criticism warranted this sentiment, and who they were to at least make you feel that way. A person doesn't often feel upset about criticism unless there is a sense of respect from the criticizer. Who crit...
