Re: Nine Life Lessons

full text here: https://www.timminchin.com/2013/09/25/occasional-address/ Overall, pretty good, but it differs from Buddhism with his statements here: 3. Remember, It’s All Luck You are lucky to be here. You were incalculably lucky to be born, and incredibly lucky to be brought up by a nice family t...

Re: The word Jew in scrabble

I moved this post to a new topic as it had nothing to do with Samana Johann's intro, afaik. That's interesting. I remember a South Park episode where one of the kids mentions that he is a Jew. The other kid says something like, "don't be so hard on yourself" and the Jewish kid insists that he is a J...

Re: Scientists Warn the UN of Capitalism's Imminent Demise

So in the end will capitalism solve such problems as air pollution at the time when it is rational to act? There are virtually no pure capitalist nations just as there are virtually no pure socialist nations. The most successful nations and economies are a mix, mostly capitalist based with private ...

Re: Scientists Warn the UN of Capitalism's Imminent Demise

I don't understand the article because its my understanding that renewable energy is cheaper to produce than coal or oil, and that it is capitalism, and not so much concern for the environment, that is driving the large investments many countries are making into renewables. Exactly, if anything cap...

Re: Buddhist statement on the separation of children from their parents

I'm sorry to bust the myth but Obama was also separating children from their families. Nobody said anything back then. That's why spiritual teachers should stay out of politics. They can never be informed enough to see through all the propaganda. I hope that at least they will all keep their eyes o...

Re: Cannabis instead of opioids

Now at that time the venerable Pilindavaccha had rheumatism in the limbs. “I allow, monks, the sweating-treatment.” He got no better … “I allow, monks, sweating by the use of all kinds of herbs.” He got no better. “I allow, monks, the great sweating.” He got no better. “I allow, monks (the use of) ...

You can always go back to 7 days if traffic picks up.

It's changed now to last 3 months or so as the default. And hopefully when traffic picks up we can go back to a shorter time as the default.

Re: The end of the world as we know it

Back in the 70's AMF, the bowling ball people, bought and made Harley's for a while; the bikes were junk and didn't sell. AMF sold the company back to the Davidson's in the early 80's. Harley at one time also owned the Italian Aermacchi factory and had them build an Italian-sourced Harley dirt bike...

Willie G is rolling over in his grave. (oh wait, he's still alive....)
And Peter Fonda's Captain America in Easy Rider.

It will be interesting to see if it catches on; probably won't be popular among the older Harley guys, but perhaps the new generation (generation z).

Re: Active Topic page inadequate

Why is the Active topic page only showing 11 threads, I know there are a lot more than that and there's no way to see the old topics, seems like some kind of glitch in the software. The default mode for phpbb forums is the number of active topics over the last 7 days. This forum is a little slow ge...

I wonder who this is addressed to exactly though.. I don't know anyone by the name of France Ha! Good point. Just as racists generalize certain groups, perhaps some anti-racists also do that, assuming anyone from France agrees with the government policies, agrees with the general attitudes of the m...
