Re: the great vegetarian debate

According to Anthony Bourdain and Chris Rock, vegetarianism is a first world luxury. In subsaharan Africa, you are starving for protein and will eat whatever meat you can get, even if it means potentially catching Ebola. I have been to sub-saharan Africa on 5 different trips. I never had any proble...

Re: the great vegetarian debate

True, but any reduction in meat consumption directly corresponds to less killing, less harm, less damage to the environment, etc. Remember when a slogan of the Democratic Party was that abortion should be "safe, legal and rare"? Now the slogan is "Shout your abortion," encouraging women to proudly ...

Re: the great vegetarian debate

It's hard to take animal rights activists seriously when they have no sympathy whatsoever for innocent children, capable of feeling pain, being killed in utero. It's like they want to save all the cows and chickens but see humans as a cancer to the earth. And I'm saying this as someone who, at one ...

Re: Never Surrender To The Mob

According to a recent interview with Joe Biden, you aren't really black unless you vote for him. This is what I mean by Democrats taking the black vote for granted. He tells the truth: one doesn't have to be of white colored skin to be the new white in the USA. Next question! But that's not what Bi...

Re: VP stakes

She's on the list, but don't think she's considered to be on the "short list." That would be great if he picked her, but doubt that it will happen. I think it will be either Warren or Kamala Harris. Or it might be someone know one is expecting, for example when McCain picked Palin, which caught ever...

So you're a businessman, AKA, capitalist :pig:

You provide services and goods to people and get paid for your capital and labor. Cool. :thumb:

VP stakes

Elizabeth Warren switches position on medicare for all to match Biden's view. Coincidence?; definitely not, as she'll say or do anything to win office. She is considered to be on the short list for VP.

Neither, I'm an Aussie. Rather embarrassed by some other Aussie wannabe Yanks
But you live in the U.S.?

I grew up moving around to different U.S. military bases; Germany, several states in the U.S., the Middle East. Military culture had a saying, "home is where you hang your hat."

Please keep in mind that we should take allegations of sexual misconduct seriously. However, American citizens still have the right to due process, whether they are celebrities or not. The accused are innocent until proven guilty.

Re: Joe Biden & MeToo Movement

How are the sexual allegations against Joe Biden any less credible than the allegations leftists and the media made against Bret Kavanaugh? Why does Biden get a free pass, simply for being a Democrat? Both parties do the double-standard thing. If a Republican leader gets accused of sexual harassmen...

Re: Globalism, Nationalism in Buddhist eyes

The suttas don't discuss such worldly, political issues directly. The brahma viharas and metta is extended "boundless" to all beings, suggesting no borders, but of course it's not necessarily a political statement. I think we currently have something of a mix. There are numerous nations on earth and...

Re: Is Billionaire philanthropy a hox?

In some cases, yes, I'm sure it is a hoax. Some of you might remember how Bill Gates was in hot water for anti-trust violations regarding his Microsoft in the 1990s. He was described at being at a 'cross-roads' in life where he had to make a decision -- continue as a ruthless CEO, amassing wealth an...

Somewhat similar to meritocracy is Geniocracy where leaders are chosen from the most intelligent candidates or that a person could only qualify as a candidate if they were determined to have a high enough intelligence score as determined by IQ tests or other procedures. This proposal was quickly rej...

Which country, per capita, has more of its citizens in prison, China or the United States? The U.S. for sure has the highest incarceration rates. We imprison too many people and too many nonviolent offenders and for too long of a sentence. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_incarcer...

Re: Meritocracy

Currently a POTUS is only allowed to nominate a person to the Supreme Court who at least has a J.D. (law degree), which of course makes sense. Then why wouldn't we also have similar prerequisites for other positions?

Re: Meritocracy

Dick Cheney supported the Vietnam War, but refused to serve himself, even though he was drafted five times. He used the college deferment to dodge the draft five times. His poor grades in college kept him in college, while other young men were sent off to this war. Incredibly Dick served as Secretar...
