Donald Trump could be in re-election trouble, the polls say. Here's why you shouldn't believe them

Greetings,

OUT: Eric "Nuke 'Em" Swalwall has dropped out of the running.

IN: Tom Steyer is apparently now in the running... but I have a feeling this man may have a few skeletons in his closet.

DNC Shuts Down Climate Debate Compromise

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) will not let 2020 primary candidates share the stage in a debate devoted to the climate crisis, the party voted Saturday during its summer meeting in San Francisco.

The DNC resolutions committee had already voted against holding a party-sanctioned debate on the topic Thursday, but it did approve language that would have allowed candidates to speak face-to-face on the issue at a third-party sponsored event. That compromise was voted down 222-137 Saturday, CNN reported. CNN and MSNBC both plan to hold climate forums in September, but the candidates will have to speak separately and will not be able to engage each other.

"This decision is as baffling as it is alarming," candidate and former Texas Representative Beto O'Rourke tweeted of the decision. "Our planet is burning—the least we can do as a party is debate what to do about it." ...

Climate activists like the youth-led Sunrise Movement have been mobilizing for a climate-specific debate for months, and most of the candidates have said they would participate, but top DNC officials, including Chair Tom Perez, have argued that it is unfair to single out one issue for discussion over others, The Mercury News reported.

"We want to make sure we don't change the rules in the middle of the process," Perez said Saturday, as The Mercury News reported. "We have a North Star principle: We want to be fair to everyone."

But others argued that the climate crisis is not just another issue.

"If an asteroid was coming to earth, there would be no question about having a debate about it," Kansas DNC member Chris Reeves said, as The Mercury News reported. "But with this existential crisis facing the world, we all sit and wring our hands."

The debate at the meeting Saturday was interrupted by protesters chanting "We can't wait" and "Failure of leadership."

"The Democratic Party needs the energy, motivation, and organizing capacity of young people to defeat Trump in 2020. But Tom Perez keeps shooting the party in the foot by rejecting that energy and turning it away," the Sunrise Movement said in a statement Saturday ...

Greetings,

I don't think these Democratic debates are doing the Democrats much good. It seems the setting, the format and the audience reactions are just encouraging them to "out-woke" each other and put the policy platform of the party further to the left. Not to be left behind, each candidate seems to be following and goading each other off the edge of a cliff.

A summary of their positions from July, courtesy of Brain Cates...
Here’s a brief rundown of the litany of topics where these 20 candidates stand on issues:

Tax Increases: Repeal the Trump tax cuts and raise taxes on the middle class.
Open Borders: Cease all border enforcement and even take down the sections of the border wall that have already been constructed.
Abortion extremism: Candidates affirmed that they want no limits whatsoever on legal abortion, which means abortions into the third trimester.
Climate Change: Many think global warming is the biggest threat facing the world today and would attempt to implement the disastrous Green New Deal.
Obamacare 2.0: Take away private health care plans and force everyone in the country into a state-run health care system. Also, raise taxes on U.S. taxpayers in order to pay for health care coverage for millions of illegal immigrants.
Gun control: Bring back the “assault weapons ban.” One of the candidates, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) has made gun control his signature issue, boasting that he would ban all “assault weapons” and then pay citizens to hand them over.
Reparations: A massive new government program to transfer taxpayer money to the descendants of former slaves.
Gender insanity: Candidate Julian Castro claimed he would protect the right of trans men to have abortions.
I'm yet to find a current comparable list, but I will keep an eye out.

Either way, he observes later in his piece that...
The conventional wisdom is that candidates vying for a party’s nomination during the primary season make direct appeals to the base. Then, during the general election phase, the nominee works to hold the base that nominated them, while simultaneously trying to attract independents and crossover votes from the other party. They accomplish this by shifting to the center.
However, the further they go to the left to start with, the further they have to shift in order to return to the centre. Have they somehow caught on to a winning strategy that I'm yet to cognize, or are they just setting themselves up for a trouncing?

Michael Moore was on Bill Maher's show last night and they were arguing about which is better, to nominate a far-leftist or someone more of a centrist. Maher was arguing for a centrist. See from 5:00 mark:

Yeah, I think the only videos that stay from that show are the ones uploaded from HBO; apparently they don't allow others uploading their stuff.

The Dem field for president is now down to 19. I think it was about 25 at one time, but now NYC mayor De Blasio and some others have dropped out.

But as it turned out, the 6’5” mayor towered over the field only in physical stature. People might have liked de Blasio’s political vision but they didn’t like him. In one final indignity, the Working Families Party, which he helped found, announced this week that it was endorsing Senator Elizabeth Warren for president.

Biden Campaign Demands TV Networks to Stop Booking Giuliani
Advisers to the former vice president wrote to executives at ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Fox News to “demand” that Mr. Giuliani not be invited on the air to discuss Ukraine and President Trump.

Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s presidential campaign contacted top television anchors and networks on Sunday to “demand” that Rudolph W. Giuliani, President Trump’s personal lawyer, be kept off the air because of what they called his misleading comments about the Biden family and Ukraine.
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/29/us/p ... liani.html

Here is the original letter, reported by Politico

Biden's campaign defense is that the Hunter Biden story would be a conspiracy theory while it is well-established fact. While Biden was vice-president, his son sat on the board on an Ukrainian energy company and made 50,000 $ a month off it while having little to no expertise in the Ukrainian energy sector. (personal opinion: his jjob was most probably to watch out for US interests in the matter, if I compare with what has been happening in France lately)

By the way here is Elisabeth Warren's terrible reaction to a related question:

Greetings,

Bernie Sanders' campaign has been suspended due to a heart attack.

All events and appearances are indefinitely postponed.

I've not seen anything yet, however, that suggests he's pulling out of the race.

Nonetheless, for a man who is looking a bit old and rickety as it is, this will cast additional doubts over his longevity and stamina.

Take care Bernie.

If he pulls out, I think we can expect Tulsi to skyrocket. She seems to be a second choice for many Sanders supporters. Although a lot have emitted reservations about her 'Medicare choice' policy

She may well be the last one left standing, at this rate.

Biden is collapsing on account of his exposure to Ukraine and China. Bernie has health concerns and may yet retire and end his run. Warren's "crazy woke aunt" routine is going to increasingly grate on sane people, and she's made some powerful enemies in the tech industry with her public commitments to break up big-tech.

Tulsi may, as we say here in Australia, "do a Steven Bradbury" and win the Democratic nomination.

You mean there's actual hope for Tulsi??

:twothumbs: I sure hope so!

She'd be the first president to take the oath on the Bhagavad-Gita (instead of the bible). And vegetarian food would be served at the White House. And she'd vacation in Southern California or Hawaii (instead of Camp David), surfing with her husband. They'd have to find Secret Servicemen who know how to surf.

How cool is that?

I don't really think this is likely to happen. Biden or Warren are the candidates the oligarchy has chosen, so it will be one of them, as usual, and then they will lose to Trump. I hope I'm wrong

Tulsi has made even more powerful enemies among defense contractors

That would be pretty cool. Even cooler would be the end of US savage imperialism, and the kowtowing of the Trumps and Bidens of the world alike to Saudi Arabia and a return to more sanity around the world.

Do you mean the DNC and the "Super PACs"?

They seem to be the only ones who have the ability to choose the nominee, over what registered Democrats actually want. (Think Hillary over Bernie...)
