Hello! Long time Dhamma Wheel user...

Post by tonysharp » Mon May 20, 2019 3:40 pm

My name is Tony. I'm 37 years old, and I reside in midwest America. I've been a practicing Buddhist for actually 13 years now. I was passively-aggressively pushed from dhammawheel to this site after, apparently, committing the sin of condoning the use of politics as a means to help people. I've mostly considered myself a Theravada Buddhist. Lately, I've started looking into Soto Zen (again).

I look forward to getting politically engaged with you all.

Welcome to DWE, Tony.

I'm sorry you were "pushed" to come here from DWT, but I'm not surprised: the DWT team decided nearly a year ago to have no current-affairs discussion at all, and DWE was set up mostly to host those sorts of discussions. I'm still not sure it was a good decision but ... here we are.
DWM, of course, has always had more sympathy for Engaged Buddhism, mainly because of the bodhisattva ideal, but we do get members from there as well. Some of us even hang around all three Wheels.

Considering how entwined politics are with so many lives (human and non-human), that probably wasn't a wise decision. It must be nice to be in a position where you don't have to worry about politics. But at least there are still platforms for political discussions, and that social issues aren't being ignored by the entire Buddhist community.

Thank you.
