Did American Jewish Activists promote Civil Rights out of self-interest?

Post by Charbel » Thu Feb 13, 2020 12:58 am

Dear DWE

American Jewish Activists have a renowned history in human & civil rights activism during the 1950s and 1960s in the USA, when:

1. The majority of US Jews had little interest in (antithetical) Israel

2. There remained social and political barriers for American Jews in the USA

3. There remained social and political barriers for African Americans in the USA

4. Jewish Activists worked together with, assisted & even managed African American activists, such as Martin Luther King.

Since the social and political barriers were smashed down in the late 1960s and early 1970s, are the descendant SJWs that exist today only concerned about their minority self-interests?

Do most American Jewish Activists today care anymore about universal civil rights?

Or are most American Jewish Activists today actually working to restrict universal civil rights and working to strengthen Jewish self-interests, including those of the foreign nation of Israel?

Please discuss. Thanks

It's correct that Jews marched hand in hand, arm in arm with Black Americans for civil rights. They even died with them in Mississippi, etc. Jews were denied entry to country clubs, white neighborhoods, etc. But since American Jews are almost entirely Ashkenazi with very light complexion, they could easily pass as gentiles. Many changed their last names to more Anglo sounding names. And thanks to the civil rights movement, much of the discrimination has ended, especially to Jews. Of course there are still incidents of discrimination, antisemitism, even violent attacks, but for the most part Jews are accepted to any positions of power in the U.S. and there are two viable candidates for POTUS right now who are Jewish, which would have been unheard of back in the 1950s or earlier.

The older ones still care about civil rights. Elie Weisel spoke out against genocide that still exists around the world, including the Rwanda genocide. And there are Jewish organizations which still campaign for civil rights. The younger ones are further removed from those days and probably don't feel there is a need for it anymore. I'm generalizing of course, as there will be plenty that still work for SJW causes, I'm sure.

Roger Waters ads banned by Major League Baseball after outcry from Jewish group

8 Feb, 2020 11:06

Major League Baseball (MLB) has stopped running promotions of Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters on its platforms, after caving in to pressure from a Jewish group that accused him of anti-Semitism.

In January, Jewish advocacy organization B’nai B’rith International began a campaign to protest ads for Waters’ new tour, ‘This is Not a Drill’, which appeared on MLB platforms. The group claimed that the musician is an “avowed anti-Semite” whose views on Israel “far exceed the boundaries of civil discourse.”
