Celebrities and the wealthy buying college admission

In the news today:

My first reaction, was "this is news?" This has been going on for decades, maybe centuries. It's about time they are cracking down on that. Wealthy parents and celebrities have been making large "donations" to prestigious universities and then their children get accepted into these prestigious schools when in fact they don't qualify based on their grades and college entrance exams.

This is a common problem of Sri Lanka too.
It is important that we need a lot of money to run a university.
The answer to this is to have more universities and scholarship for the poor.
Without the brilliant students, the universities do not survive even if they have a lot of money.

Yes and the worst part of that 'make donation - for kids acceptance scheme' is that it denies a seat to another person who was really qualified; but doesn't have the money to make those exorbitant donation-bribes.
